John W. Preece
Mayor John W. Preece is a Graduate of Marshall University, of Huntington West Virginia. He has a B.A. in Accounting, an M.A. in Education, and is a Certified Public Accountant. He also has the distinction of being the Professor of Accounting (Tenured) at the South Williamson Community College in Williamson, West Virginia; and is the previous full-time Instructor at WV State (College) University.
Before serving as Mayor of Delbarton, John worked for the State of West Virginia from 1969 to 1988, progressing through the ranks to Upper Management.
In 1985, John opened his own Accounting Practice in Williamson, WV on a part-time basis. By 1988, his private practice was thriving and he made the choice to leave State Employment to run his Accounting Practice full time.
John has practiced as a Certified Public Accountant since 1985. His concentration has been in accounting write-up, taxes, IRS representation, payroll, and non-profit and governmental accounting.
Personalized financial and tax planning services for individuals and corporations has kept him on top of the changing dynamics of the profession and avows that the time he spends teaching accounting at the Community College requires him to stay abreast of his vocation, and honing his skills.
John has many coal-related clients. He has always worked closely with the coal-mining industry. An outgrowth of his accounting acumen and coal mining insight–combined with his numerous contacts throughout West Virginia and Kentucky–he has most recently opened another business, West Virginia Mine Power, which is a coal mining contractor and labor services provider.
Besides running his Accounting Practice, located in Delbarton, WV, and establishing West Virginia Mine Power, he also owns a motel in Delbarton.
